ABOUT:
Part of the work of the Maya Gold Foundation is the support of young people in Nepal. Why Nepal? Maya had a plan to travel to Nepal and volunteer in an orphanage after graduating high school early. As a freshman in high school she read a book that moved her deeply, Sold, and prior to that she was very interested in Malala Yousafzi and her work. In addition, a family visit to India in 2014 was transformative for Maya; it gave her a first-hand experience that changed her view of the world.

The Maya Gold Foundation is now working to provide assistance to youth in Nepal in a meaningful, lasting way. Rather than attempt to deliver services directly as a non-governmental organization, (NGO) in Nepal, we are now working with the Himalayan Children’s Charities (HCC) to support existing programs in Nepal. HCC has a proven track record of delivering high quality services in Nepal. Our board conducted extensive research and vetting in order to select an NGO that we have full confidence in. HCC is that NGO.

Funds have been donated to HCC to support young people in Nepal right now. Through the generous support of our donors, and in partnership with HCC, we have been able to provide food, clothing, shelter, education and healthcare to several orphaned and abandoned youth in Nepal.

In April of 2017, five Maya Gold Foundation board members traveled to Nepal to meet HCC staff and youngsters, and a subsequent trip for fifteen teens was undertaken in spring of 2018. We are currently preparing for an April 2019 trip. We will be bringing sixteen Hudson Valley youth to Nepal for education activities, service work, and cross cultural exchange.
